What We Do

What We Do – Art

Support/groups/meetings take place in a facility resembling a multifaced art gallery, helping people triumph over addictions and/or manage a Mental Health Challenge.  Vivid paintings by Joey Supina, person in long term recovery, line the walls of the Recovery Café.  Sandusky Artisans believes all people have creative talent to express what cannot be said but can flow through the creative process.

“When someone is doing art, like baking a cake or painting a picture, time stands still, and it’s no longer work,” former center director Joey Supina said. “Art seems to put people in a position where they can feel more comfortable”. Supina, a person in long term recovery for over 50+ years, would know about art’s healing powers better than most. “Art has transformed my life,” said Supina, who worked as a professional artist before heading up Artisans with his wife, Mary, in 1996.

“People who use art as therapy learn to live life,” Supina said. “That’s how we live in the solution, and not live in the problem”.

We create art on Fridays 12:30pm – 1:30pm.
